ESI SCHEME IN GOA REGION
E.S.I. Scheme was first implemented in Goa w.e.f. 01.07.1975 in seven talukas of Goa namely viz. i. Tiswadi ii. Bardez iii. Ponda iv. Mormugao v. Bicholim vi. Salcete vii. Quepem covering 150 employers involving 4000 employees. Notification under section 15 was issued by the Government of Goa in July 1977 and shops and commercial establishments were covered under ESI Act from the said date. The remaining are as of Goa state were brought under ESI Act w.e.f 05.07.2012 and at present entire territory of Goa State is notified under ESI Act. Goa has become a full fledged Region of ESIC on 03.10.1988 and now the entire territory of Goa is notified under ESI Scheme.
State Govt. of Goa vide notification No. 24152011-Lab. ESI341 dated 05.07.2012 has extended the provisions of the ESI Act to shops commercial establishments engaging ten or more persons by reducing the threshold limit of employees from 20 persons to 10 persons for coverage us 15 for w.e.f. 05.07.2012.
